Discover the Best of Melbourne This Saturday

Melbourne is buzzing this Saturday, 4 April 2026, with a spectacular lineup of culture, comedy, and community spirit. From world-exclusive museum exhibitions to the height of the international comedy season, there is no shortage of ways to spend your day in the city. Here is your guide to what is happening across Melbourne today.

Step Back in Time at Melbourne Museum

Today marks the first weekend of the blockbuster exhibition, ROME: Empire, Power, People. Held exclusively at Melbourne Museum in Carlton, this large-scale showcase features over 150 original artefacts from Italy, including majestic statues, intricate mosaics, and everyday items from the 1st to 3rd centuries. It offers a rare portal into the gladiator arenas and bustling marketplaces of the Eternal City. While you are there, explore the newly refreshed permanent galleries such as First Peoples and Dinosaur Walk, which are also welcoming visitors today.

Laugh Out Loud at Fed Square

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is in full swing, and today is the final chance to catch The (Very) Big Laugh Out at Fed Square. This free event features world-class street performers and family-friendly stand-up sets on the Main Stage at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Later in the evening, stick around for the Outdoor Cinema, which will be screening beloved family comedy favorites on the big screen starting at 5:00 pm. For those looking for solo shows, comedy icon Kitty Flanagan begins her festival run tonight at one of the city's premier venues.

Local Markets and Craft Fairs

Saturday is market day in Melbourne, and the options are plentiful:

  • CRFT*WRK at Queen Victoria Market: From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, head to C Shed for a celebration of contemporary locally-made craft. It is the perfect place to find unique jewelry, ceramics, and textiles.
  • The Melbourne Book Market: Located in A Shed at Queen Victoria Market, bibliophiles can browse thousands of new and pre-loved titles.
  • Carlton Farmers Market: Fresh seasonal produce and artisanal treats are available this morning at this community favorite, conveniently located near Lygon Street.
  • Rose Street Artists' Market: In Fitzroy, local artists are showcasing their latest creations in this iconic weekend hub.

New Experiences and Family Fun
