Morning and Afternoon Peak Outlook

Melbourne commuters should prepare for a standard Thursday peak, though major infrastructure projects continue to reshape travel patterns across the city. With the Metro Tunnel now officially open and integrated into the network, CBD travel has seen significant capacity improvements. However, those traveling via the Eastern Freeway and the West Gate corridor will encounter persistent construction zones that require extra travel time during the busiest hours of the day.

Major Eastern Freeway and North East Link Disruptions

The most significant impact today is the ongoing 24/7 closure of the Bulleen Road citybound exit ramp. This closure, which began yesterday, is expected to remain in place until mid-March. Crews are working around the clock to complete critical noise wall construction and underpass works. Motorists heading toward the city should expect delays of up to 20 minutes and are advised to use the Doncaster Road exit as an alternative. Additionally, long-term speed reductions remain in place on the Eastern Freeway between Hoddle Street and Springvale Road while traffic barrier installations continue.

West Gate Freeway and Western Corridor Updates

In the west, the West Gate Freeway is undergoing intensive surfacing works. Commuters will find the freeway reduced to three lanes in both directions between Williamstown Road and Millers Road. These works are part of the final stages of the West Gate Tunnel Project. Drivers are encouraged to choose their lanes early, particularly those transitioning from the M80 Ring Road or Princes Freeway, as express lanes and local exit lanes are now clearly delineated to manage the flow toward the city.

Public Transport Alerts: Werribee Line

For those using the rail network, the Werribee Line continues to face scheduled evening disruptions. Buses will replace trains from 8:30 pm tonight until the last service. This is the final night of the current maintenance block, with normal train services expected to resume on Friday morning. Commuters heading home late should allow at least 30 minutes of extra travel time for the bus connection.

Nightly Maintenance and Roadworks

Several arterial roads will be impacted by asphalt resurfacing works tonight:

  • Keysborough: All westbound lanes of Cheltenham Road will be closed between Chapel Road and Perry Road from 8:30 pm to 5:30 am. A detour is in place via Dandenong Bypass and Springvale Road.
  • Keilor North: A southbound lane closure will affect the Calder Freeway at the Kings Road interchange from 9:00 pm tonight until 5:30 am Friday morning.
  • CityLink: While morning commuters will find the network clear, expect lane reductions on the inbound sections between Toorak Road and Glenferrie Road starting from 8:00 pm tonight for preventative maintenance.
