Official Notice: St Kilda Festival Tow-Away Zones

The Department of Transport and Planning, in conjunction with local council authorities, has officially designated several key thoroughfares in St Kilda as mandatory tow-away areas to facilitate the safe operation of the St Kilda Festival. Under the Road Management Act 2004, these regulations are active from 12:00 am on Saturday, 14 February 2026, through to 11:59 pm on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

Authorities have the power to move or impound any vehicle found unlawfully parked or causing an obstruction within these zones. To avoid fines and towing fees, residents and visitors must observe all temporary signage on the following roads:

  • Fitzroy Street, St Kilda: Between Grey Street and St Kilda Road.
  • Canterbury Road, St Kilda: Between Fitzroy Street and West Beach Road.
  • Beach Road, St Kilda: Between Pier Road and Blessington Street.

Public Health Alert: Measles Risk and Monitoring

The Victorian Chief Health Officer has issued an active health advisory following a rise in measles cases linked to overseas and interstate travel. Health officials urge the Melbourne community to remain vigilant for symptoms, which typically begin with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red or sore eyes. This is usually followed by a red maculopapular rash starting on the face and spreading down the body.

As measles is highly infectious, any individual who suspects they have symptoms is instructed to call their medical clinic or emergency department ahead of time to ensure they are isolated upon arrival. Residents born during or after 1966 who have not received two doses of the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine are strongly encouraged to contact their GP for a catch-up vaccination.

Major Infrastructure and Road Disruptions

Several significant roadworks and infrastructure projects will impact travel across the metropolitan area this Saturday. Motorists are advised to plan for delays and follow posted detours:

  • St Kilda East: Princes Highway-Dandenong Road will be closed in both directions between Williams Road and Orrong Road from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am for asphalt resurfacing. Detours are available via High Street and Balaclava Road.
  • Footscray: Geelong Road remains subject to major closures. Eastbound lanes are closed between Gordon Street and Droop Street, while westbound lanes are restricted between Barkly Street and Gordon Street.
  • Albion/Sunshine: The Albion Station commuter car park remains closed until late 2026 to facilitate underground utility relocations for the Melbourne Airport Rail project. Commuters should use alternative parking at Tottenham Station on Rupert Street.

Council Service Reminders

While standard weekend waste collection and emergency council services remain operational, the City of Melbourne reminds residents that certain administrative functions may be adjusted due to the weekend festival. Public parks and recreational facilities remain open, though localized restrictions may apply near event sites. Standard parking regulations and noise ordinances remain in effect outside of designated festival zones.
