Morning Commute Overview

Melbourne commuters are advised to prepare for significant travel impacts today, Tuesday, 10 February 2026. Following the implementation of the "Big Switch" rail timetable and ongoing major infrastructure projects, several key corridors are experiencing heavy congestion and planned closures. The most significant daytime disruption is centered in the city's southeast, where major intersection upgrades are causing extensive delays for Casey residents.

Major Road Disruptions and Roadworks

  • Clyde North Gridlock: Motorists in Clyde North should allow up to 60 minutes of extra travel time near the intersection of Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road. The removal of the roundabout to make way for new traffic signals has resulted in severe peak-hour congestion, with local detours via Grices Road and Hardys Road proving insufficient to handle typical traffic volumes.
  • Eastern Freeway & Bulleen Road: The citybound exit ramp at Bulleen Road remains closed for 24/7 works as part of the North East Link project. Drivers are facing delays of approximately 20 minutes in this area. Additionally, lanes between Doncaster Road and Bulleen Road are currently split under new concrete structures; please maintain your lane and observe the reduced speed limits.
  • Princes Highway (Footscray): Starting tonight, Tuesday, 10 February, eastbound closures will be in place between Gordon Street and Droop Street for asphalt resurfacing. Westbound lane closures will also occur between Barkly Street and Gordon Street. These works run from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am.
  • Malvern East Night Closures: All eastbound lanes on the Princes Highway (Dandenong Road) will be closed tonight between Murrumbeena Road and Warrigal Road from 9:00 pm. Use North Road as an alternative detour.
  • Werribee: Nightly closures continue on the Princes Highway between Sneydes Road and Duncans Road. Expect delays of up to 25 minutes during work hours (9:00 pm – 5:00 am).

Public Transport and Rail Updates

The metropolitan rail network is operating under the new "Big Switch" timetable. Passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, and Sunbury lines are reminded that their services now run exclusively through the Metro Tunnel. If you are heading to the central city, utilize the new Town Hall and State Library stations for direct access to the CBD.

  • V/Line Evening Coaches: For regional commuters, coaches will replace evening trains on the Seymour and Gippsland (Traralgon) lines tonight, starting from approximately 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, to allow for essential maintenance.
  • Tram Network: Early works for tram track renewals are causing nightly traffic management at the intersection of Bourke and Spencer Streets. While tram routes 86 and 96 remain unaffected during this early phase, motorists should expect minor diversions between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Central City Alerts

In the CBD, a full northbound closure remains in place at the intersection of Queen Street and Franklin Street for telecommunications upgrades. Additionally, Elizabeth Street is restricted northbound between Franklin and Therry Streets during evening hours. Pedestrians should note that the southern footpath on Therry Street is also closed for drainage works.
