Future Melbourne Committee Meeting

The Future Melbourne Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Town Hall Commons. A critical item on the agenda for this session is the consideration of whether to pause Amendment C417, following a formal request from the Minister for Planning regarding the Macaulay urban renewal precinct. Residents and interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting in person or view the live stream via the official council website. Those wishing to make a written or verbal submission must register their interest by 10:00 AM on the day of the meeting.

Department of Health: Measles Advisory

Victorian health officials have issued a high-priority advisory following a confirmed increase in measles risks across the state. As of early February 2026, multiple public exposure sites remain under monitoring. Health authorities advise anyone who has recently visited high-traffic public locations to monitor for symptoms for up to 18 days. Initial symptoms often include fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, typically followed by a blotchy rash. Individuals who are unsure of their vaccination status or have not received two doses of the MMR vaccine are urged to consult their general practitioner immediately.

New Metropolitan Rail Timetables

Commuters are reminded that the first full work week of the major 2026 metropolitan rail overhaul is now underway. Following the official opening of the Metro Tunnel late last year, the comprehensive new timetable became active on 1 February. Key adjustments affecting Tuesday commuters include:

  • Pakenham and Cranbourne line services now operate exclusively via the Metro Tunnel, bypassing the City Loop to provide direct access to new underground stations.
  • The Sunbury line has moved to a high-frequency schedule, with trains running every 10 minutes to Watergardens during peak periods.
  • The Frankston line has reverted to its traditional full-time operation through the City Loop.
  • Commuters under the age of 18 are now eligible for free travel across the network as part of the new Youth myki initiative.

Public Safety and Policing Operations

Victoria Police have confirmed that several "Designated Areas" under the Control of Weapons Act remain in effect through February. These zones allow for increased search powers at major shopping precincts and transport hubs, including Highpoint, Northland, and Eastland shopping centres. These measures are part of ongoing public safety operations and are expected to remain active until 28 February 2026.

Community Consultation and Engagement

The City of Melbourne is currently seeking public input on several local initiatives. Residents are invited to vote for a native flower to serve as the city's official floral emblem, with voting closing on 15 February. Additionally, the council is seeking feedback on the proposed expansion of the Normanby Road Reserve in Southbank and planned enhancements to public space on Hawke Street in West Melbourne. Submissions for these urban planning projects are due by 8 February 2026.
