Night-Time Rail Maintenance and Service Disruptions

The Department of Transport and Planning has issued an official notice regarding essential maintenance works affecting several major rail lines tonight, Wednesday, 11 February 2026. Commuters using the Craigieburn, Upfield, and Williamstown lines should be aware that all trains will terminate and originate at Southern Cross Station from 9:00 PM until the final service of the evening. Passengers heading to Flinders Street or City Loop stations will need to transfer to City Circle services at Southern Cross.

  • Werribee Line: Buses will replace all train services between 9:00 PM and the last service. Commuters are advised to allow at least 30 minutes of extra travel time as replacement coaches navigate local traffic.
  • Frankston Line: No trains will run through the City Loop after 9:00 PM tonight. Services will instead run directly to and from Flinders Street Station.

Major Road Resurfacing and Highway Closures

VicRoads has confirmed significant night-time closures for road rehabilitation projects. On the Princes Highway in Malvern East, all eastbound lanes will be closed to traffic between Murrumbeena Road and Warrigal Road. This closure will remain in effect from 9:00 PM tonight until 5:00 AM tomorrow morning. A signed detour is currently in place via North Road, and motorists are urged to follow all temporary speed limits for the safety of work crews.

In Melbourne’s west, asphalt resurfacing continues on the Princes Highway in Werribee. The road is closed nightly between Sneydes Road and Duncans Road from 8:00 PM. These works are part of the Western Roads Upgrade and are expected to cause delays of approximately 25 minutes. Heavy vehicles are encouraged to utilize the Princes Freeway to avoid local congestion.

Health Advisory: Increased Measles Monitoring

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has released an updated health alert concerning a rise in travel-related measles cases within the metropolitan area. As of mid-February 2026, six confirmed cases have been reported, primarily linked to international arrivals. The Department of Health recommends that all residents, particularly those born during or after 1966, verify their vaccination status. The Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine is the most effective protection against this highly infectious disease. Residents who have visited international airports recently and develop a fever or rash should consult a doctor immediately after calling ahead to notify the clinic.

Civic Engagement and Floral Emblem Vote

The City of Melbourne invites the public to Federation Square today for the 'Melbourne Conversations' series, focusing on ethics in the age of artificial intelligence. This session begins at midday and is free for all residents. Additionally, the Council reminds citizens that voting for the city’s official floral emblem concludes this Sunday, 15 February. Residents are encouraged to cast their vote online for the native plant that best represents the city’s unique biodiversity and urban character.
