Public Notice: Total Fire Ban Declared and Essential Infrastructure Updates

Emergency Alert: Total Fire Ban for Central District
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has declared a Total Fire Ban for the Central District, which includes the Greater Melbourne area, for Wednesday, 4 February 2026. Under a Total Fire Ban, no fire can be lit in the open air or be allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. This includes campfires, solid fuel barbecues, and certain outdoor work activities. Residents are urged to implement their bushfire survival plans and monitor local conditions via official emergency channels.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert
The Victorian Department of Health has issued a red alert following the identification of new travel-associated measles cases in the state. As of early February 2026, health authorities are tracking multiple exposure sites across metropolitan Melbourne. Residents are advised to:
- Review their immunization status and ensure they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine.
- Monitor for symptoms including fever, cough, and a characteristic rash.
- Contact their GP ahead of time if symptoms develop to avoid exposing others in waiting rooms.
Critical Road and Infrastructure Works
Several major transport disruptions are scheduled for Wednesday, 4 February 2026, to facilitate essential maintenance and resurfacing:
- West Gate Freeway: Three lanes will be closed citybound between Millers Road and Williamstown Road from 9:00 PM Wednesday until 5:00 AM Thursday for line marking. Speeds will be reduced to 40km/h in the work zone.
- CityLink (M2): Lane closures continue between Moreland Road and Albion Street for overnight line marking until 5:00 AM Wednesday morning.
- Melbourne CBD: Power utility works on Elizabeth Street have necessitated a full eastern footpath closure between Little Lonsdale and La Trobe streets. Additionally, a northbound road closure is in effect at the intersection of Queen and Franklin streets for telecommunications upgrades.
- Mornington Peninsula Freeway: Lane closures will be in place during the day between Nepean Highway exits at Safety Beach for asphalt resurfacing.
Community Services and Health Reform
The Victorian Government has announced a significant reform to ADHD care. Specialist GPs are now authorized to diagnose and treat ADHD in both children and adults across Victoria, a move intended to reduce wait times and out-of-pocket costs for families. Locally, the City of Moonee Valley is hosting community health sessions today, including "Dance for Seniors" at the Clocktower Centre and "Outdoor Mat Pilates" at the Queens Park Swimming Pool.
