Eastern Freeway: Major Weekend Disruptions

Motorists traveling citybound on the Eastern Freeway today, Sunday, 8 February, should prepare for significant delays. A major planned closure is in effect between Doncaster Road and Bulleen Road as part of the ongoing North East Link and Eastern Freeway Upgrades. All citybound lanes are closed until 5:00 AM Monday morning to facilitate asphalting and the opening of a new median worksite. Officials have warned that travel times may increase by up to 60 minutes during peak periods today.

In addition to the mainline closure, several citybound entry ramps are currently shut, including those at Doncaster Road, Elgar Road, Middleborough Road, Blackburn Road, and Springvale Road. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes, such as Whitehorse Road or the Monash Freeway, and to allow significant extra time for their journeys.

Fitzroy and Collingwood: Victoria’s Pride Street Party

In the inner-north, the Victoria’s Pride Street Party is causing major local traffic disruptions. Full road closures are in place until 3:00 AM Monday on Smith Street (between Gertrude Street and Charles Street) and Gertrude Street (between Brunswick Street and Little Oxford Street). Several surrounding side streets, including Peel Street and Napier Street, also have restricted access. A temporary tow-away designation is active in the area, so visitors and residents should pay close attention to local signage to avoid fines or relocation of vehicles.

Public Transport and Metro Tunnel Updates

While the new Metro Tunnel stations are now fully operational, passengers are advised to remain patient following network reliability concerns earlier this week. For those using the Frankston Line tonight, please note that trains will not run through the City Loop from 9:00 PM until the last service. These trains will run direct to and from Flinders Street Station due to maintenance works. Earlier disruptions on the Werribee Line involving buses replacing trains have now cleared as of 6:00 AM this morning, with normal Sunday services resumed.

Evening Roadworks and Arterial Closures

Late-night commuters should be aware of several arterial road closures starting at 9:00 PM tonight:

  • Hoddle Street, South Yarra:

Closed in both directions between Toorak Road and Commercial Road from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM Monday for asphalt resurfacing.
  • Burwood Highway, Wantirna South:

All eastbound lanes will be closed between Melbourne Street and Lewis Road from 9:00 PM until 6:00 AM. A detour is available via Stud Road and Boronia Road.
  • Princes Highway, Malvern East:

Eastbound lane closures between Murrumbeena Road and Warrigal Road commence at 9:00 PM tonight.

Commuters are advised to stay updated via digital signage and official transport apps as conditions may change throughout the afternoon.
